The Newport News Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old boy. NNPD reports that its officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4200 block of Newsome Drive around 8:16 p.m. on November 19, 2024.

Authorities say officers found a 3-year-old boy inside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. According to police, the three-year-old was pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

NNPD says the shooting is being investigated as an accidental, self-inflicted incident. No other details are available at this time.
