Mufaro Machaya sentenced following two violent stabbings in Leicester

The Leicestershire Police announced that a man who attacked two people last year had been sentenced. A news release from Leicestershire Police explains that two off-duty officers heard a woman screaming in the street on Goodheart Way in the Braunstone area on December 5.

Authorities say Mufaro Machaya had stabbed a 62-year-old woman 11 times before he walked away. A short time later, Machaya approached a 65-year-old man who was walking home on Meadvale Road. Machaya attacked the man from behind stabbing him in the head and neck.

The victim was stabbed in the arm as he attempted to defend himself. A neighbor found the victim and called emergency services. Police were able to apprehend Machaya in the underpass in Gallards Hill a short time later. When police searched Machaya, they found a knife inside his coat.

Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities say the female victim required surgery to her abdomen and was discharged after multiple days. According to a news release from the Leicestershire Police, Machaya remained volatile towards officers while in custody.

In the interest of safety, he was interviewed from his cell but refused to assist officers. Machaya was charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed weapon. In August, Machaya pleaded guilty to two counts of Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm and possession of a bladed article.

Authorities say Machaya was given a hospital order on Friday. He will only be discharged with the approval of the Secretary of State for Justice under Section 41 of the Mental Health Act.
