The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office says its deputies were involved in an officer-involved shooting with a suspect wielding an AR-15 rifle. ECSO reports that its deputies responded to reports of shots being fired in the 800 block of Amberway Drive around 10:37 p.m. on November 9, 2024.
Authorities say the callers reported that a man was firing a gun in his front yard. Deputies reached the scene and the suspect fired an AR-15 at them, according to police. ESCO confirms no deputies were injured.
According to police, the suspect refused to drop the weapon despite deputies giving multiple commands. ESCO says its deputies were forced to shoot the suspect who was transported to an area hospital.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that a pistol and the AR-15 rifle were recovered from the front yard. No other details are being provided at this time. The involved deputies will be placed on administrative leave per ESCO’s policy.
