The Asheville Police Department reports that it is searching for Darren Lamon Clayton in connection to the death of Makala Lashea Harrison. APD says its officers responded to the 100 block of South French Broad Avenue around 11 a.m. on Saturday for a welfare check.

Police say they found Harrison deceased under traumatic circumstances at the scene. At this time, police believe the victim was fatally shot. APD detectives say they identified Darren Lamon Clayton as the shooter.

Police are currently searching for Clayton who should be considered armed and dangerous. APD urges anyone who sees him to call 911 immediately. Asheville Police confirm that this is the 11th homicide it has investigated in 2024.
