Chicago Police arrest Darion McMillian in fatal shooting of officer Enrique Martinez

The Chicago Police Department has announced the arrest of 23-year-old Darion McMillian in connection to the murder of CPD officer Enrique Martinez. CPD says McMillian was arrested in the killing on November 4, 2024.

Around 8:05 p.m., McMillian was allegedly a passenger in a vehicle as officers carried out a traffic stop in the 8000 block of South Ingleside Avenue. It is alleged that McMillian produced a firearm and opened fire fatally wounding Officer Martinez.

Police say a 23-year-old male inside the vehicle was also fatally shot. CPD says the suspect attempted to flee the scene in the vehicle and injured another Chicago Police officer. Authorities say the suspect fled on foot but was taken into custody 25 minutes later.

McMillian is charged with two counts of Murder First Degree. He is also facing charges of Attempt Murder First Degree, UUW Weapon Machine Gun/Automatic Weapon/Vehicle, UUW Weapon – Felon Possess/Use Firearm, and Burglary – Residential.
