The Prince George’s County Police Department has announced that a suspect has been identified and charged in the fatal shooting of 48-year-old Brian Akinfe of Temple Hills. According to a news release from the Prince George’s County Police Department, Homicide Unit detectives identified and charged 46-year-old Christopher Cross of Washington DC in connection to the fatal shooting in Suitland.

Patrol officers responded to Branch Avenue and St. Barnabas Road in reference to a crash involving a motorcycle around 7:40 PM on September 2, 2023. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive victim in the roadway near his motorcycle.

While providing aid, first responders determined that the victim was suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, who was later identified as 48-year-old Brian Akinfe, was transported to a hospital. The victim passed away on September 12, 2023.

Authorities say the preliminary investigation revealed that Cross and Akinfe were known to each other and they were involved in an ongoing dispute. 46-year-old Christopher Cross is charged with first and second degree murder as well as related charges.

He is currently in custody in Washington DC pending extradition to Prince George’s County.
