The Ames Police Department announced that it is investigating the death of a man found deceased near an alley off Burnett Avenue. APD reports that it received a report of a male lying in an alley in the 700 block of Burnett Avenue around 8:26 a.m. on November 3, 2024.

Police say officers found a 53-year-old man lying in a parking lot near the alley. The deceased was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be performed.

Investigators say they canvassed the area, processed the scene, and performed follow-up interviews. Police do not believe there is a threat to the community. The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of family.
