Sunnyvale authorities investigating sexual assault at Marine Corps recruiting center

The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety reports that it was notified of a sexual assault that occurred on October 28, 2024 at the Marine Corps recruiting center on South Mary Avenue.

Authorities say the incident involved a 17-year-old female and an active-duty Marine Corps recruiter. Police say the suspect, Jorge Lara-Pedroza, met the victim at a recruiting event at the victim’s school approximately a week ago.

On October 28, 2024, the victim met the suspect at the recruiting center to learn more about the Marine Corps, according to SDPS. At that time, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.

Authorities arrested Lara-Pedroza on October 29 and booked him into the Santa Clara County Jail. He is charged with several crimes, including Oral Copulation, Penetration with a Foreign Object, and Arranging to Meet with a Minor with the Intent to Engage in Sexual Conduct.
