The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has announced the arrest of a fellow officer. In a press release, CMPD says its Internal Affairs Division is conducting an internal investigation into the arrest of CMPD Officer Dylan Lineberger outside of CMPD’s jurisdiction.
Police say a warrant was issued in South Carolina for 1st Degree Harassment. Lineberger was arrested in Lincolnton, North Carolina following a traffic stop carried out by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Lineberger is currently awaiting extradition to South Carolina. Authorities say the Rock Hill Police Department is the lead investigative agency. Lineberger was off duty at the time of his arrest.
CMPD says he was hired on January 25, 2016 and his most recent assignment was in CMPD’s Central Division. Chief Jennings released a statement saying the following.
“I am tremendously disappointed to learn of the arrest of Officer Lineberger. Any time an officer is arrested, it shakes the public’s confidence in law enforcement and erodes trust in policing. We work daily to improve relationships with the community and will continue to do so. We have high expectations for our men and women in uniform, but when our officers are not at work, we expect them to abide by the same laws they are sworn to uphold.”
