The Modesto Police Department is investigating a murder-suicide that was reported on Thursday morning. MPD reports that the Stanislaus Regional 911 center received a call for a welfare check at a residence on Citrus Drive in Modesto around 9:42 a.m. on October 24.
MPD says the caller reported that a female resident had not arrived at work and that was unusual for her. Authorities also say a neighbor had mentioned that they had not seen the woman for several days.
Officers responded to the scene and forced entry into the residence where they found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound, according to authorities. The 17-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene.
MPD reports that 46-year-old Sierra Morgan was found deceased nearby with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. MPD confirms a handgun was located. Although MPD has not released the victim’s name, it is confirmed that he was Sierra’s son.
MPD is investigating the case as a murder-suicide.
