The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrests of two teen brothers from Amite in connection to the fatal shooting of a teenage girl in Independence earlier this month.

TPSO reports that 18-year-old Kennivar Burton and 17-year-old Jarden Burton have been arrested and booked on charges of 2nd Degree Murder, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Obstruction of Justice, and Illegal Discharge of a Firearm.

The Independence Police Department says it responded to an apartment complex on 1st Street for a report of an unresponsive person around 9 a.m. on October 4. At the scene, officers found 18-year-old Le’Airrah Dupard deceased from a gunshot wound.

Authorities say a second person in the home is believed to have been the target, but that person was not hit. The teen brothers were taken into custody on October 21.
