The Oxnard Police Department reports that an officer-involved shooting occurred on Monday night. OPD says its officers responded to a call of shots fired from a vehicle in the 3700 block of Leeward Way around 8:15 p.m. on October 21, 2024.
Authorities say a male suspect who matched the description provided by the caller was spotted by officers. The officers contacted the suspect who was armed with a firearm, according to OPD.
Oxnard Police say the officers gave the suspect commands and tried to gain his compliance, but the suspect was reportedly uncooperative and would not drop the firearm. OPD alleges that the suspect pointed the firearm at the officers leading to two officers firing their department-issued weapons.
The injured suspect was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. OPD says the suspect is currently listed in stable condition and no one else was injured. Authorities confirm that criminal charges are pending for the suspect.
At this time, the suspect is only being identified as a 34-year-old male from Oxnard.
