17-year-old in custody in Monday shooting on New Albany’s West Side

Indiana authorities say a Jeffersonville man is dead following a fatal shooting on Monday morning on the west side of New Albany. Around 10 a.m., the New Albany Police Department says it received reports of shots being fired at 325 West 8th Street.

NAPD and Floyd County Police Department officers responded to the scene where they reportedly found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities have identified the victim as 30-year-old Johntae Trumbo of Jeffersonville.

The victim passed away at the University of Louisville Hospital. Indiana authorities say the alleged shooter was a 17-year-old male who remained at the scene and was detained when officers arrived.

The Indiana State Police responded and will lead the investigation. ISP says the 17-year-old has been charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Serious Violent Felon, Obstruction of Justice, and False Informing.

He was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center in Jeffersonville.
