The Surprise Police Department alleges that 26-year-old Garrett Headrick traveled from California to Surprise, Arizona to confront his victim. Around 7:30 a.m. on October 19, SPD says its officers responded to a home in the area of Greenway Road and Dysart Road after a neighbor reported seeing a man grab a woman and drag her inside by her hair.
SPD says officers knocked on the door and announced their presence before hearing a woman screaming for help from inside. Authorities say they made entry into the residence and found a man sitting on top of a woman while assaulting her.
Officers say they used multiple less-lethal bean bag-type rounds to stop the assault. SPD says officers also found multiple knives on the floor near the suspect. The woman suffered multiple injuries, including lacerations and contusions, according to authorities.
She was transported to an area hospital where she is in stable condition. SPD says 26-year-old Garrett Headrick was arrested and charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Threatening, Unlawful Imprisonment, and Disorderly Conduct.
Authorities allege Headrick traveled from California to confront the victim and waited outside her residence before the attack occurred. Headrick had reportedly been in a relationship with the victim and they have a child together.
Headrick is currently being held on a $1,500,000 bond.
