The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a mass shooting during homecoming weekend at the Albany State University. The GBI says one person was fatally shot and five others were injured.
Authorities say the incident happened around 8:50 p.m. in a crowded area near a campus concert. The Albany State University Police Department and other local and state agencies responded swiftly.
Six individuals were injured. One victim, 19-year-old De’Marion Tashawn Daniels, was fatally shot. The GBI reports that Daniels was not an ASU student. The other victims include a 13-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl, a 16-year-old girl, a 20-year-old girl, and a 19-year-old girl.
The GBI says the victims were treated at a triage site on campus before being transported to an area hospital. Anyone with information is asked to contact Albany State University Police at 229-430-4711 or the GBI at 1-800-597-TIPS.
