Murder suspect apprehended in Dyer County following high speed chase

The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office says a murder suspect is in custody following a high-speed chase. DCSO says the murder occurred at Shelby Farms earlier on Saturday and the suspect fled from law enforcement in Shelby County.

Law enforcement officers were involved in a multi-county high-speed pursuit with the suspect. Authorities say the pursuit moved through Tipton County, Lauderdale County, and was intercepted by Dyer County deputies on Highway 51 while the vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction into oncoming traffic.

DCSO alleges that the suspect tried to run over DCSO Sergeant Lynn Waller who set up spike strips at the county line. The pursuit finally ended when DCSO Deputy Newman used the PIT maneuver just inside the county on Highway 51.

The suspect was transported to a local emergency room for evaluation. Authorities say a loaded handgun was recovered and seized as evidence.
