Authorities say a 19-year-old Hyattsville man has been charged for the shooting of a 15-year-old victim. The victim was reportedly outside shoveling show when he was assaulted by the accused.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela A. Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department. 19-year-old Christ Tchakounte is charged with the following.
- Assault with Intent to Kill While Armed
- Aggravated Assault While Armed
- Attempt to Commit Robbery While Armed
- Possession of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence (Three Counts)
- Carrying a Pistol Without a License
The government’s evidence alleges that the teen victim was shoveling snow with friends and relatives in January 2024. The accused and an accomplice allegedly pulled up in a vehicle and parked in a nearby alley.
Tchakounte is accused of flanking the victim and shooting the victim three times before fleeing. The victim was shot three times including once in the head. The victim survived following months of intensive care.
