Roswell Police involved in officer-involved shooting on Tuesday

The Roswell Police Department reports that its officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. RPD says it began when officers attempted to arrest 28-year-old Louie Joseph Archuleta who pulled into the parking lot of the Candlewood Suites Hotel on Military Heights Drive.

RPD says the officers had been following and watching the suspect who was wanted on charges of Receiving Stolen Property, Conspiracy to Commit Receiving Stolen Property, Tampering with Evidence, Conspiracy to commit Tampering with Evidence, Abandonment or Abuse of a Child (x3), Conspiracy to Commit Abandonment or Abuse of a Child (3x), and more.

Authorities say Archuleta fled in the vehicle and was involved in a crash with another vehicle at West Country Club Road and North Kentucky Avenue. The crash happened where the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center is located.

RPD says the suspect fled on foot to the east with officers following him. Authorities claim Archuleta’s actions resulted in multiple RPD officers firing shots at him during the foot pursuit.

Archuleta was shot one or more times. He was taken to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. No officers were injured during the incident. The driver of the other vehicle was the only occupant and was not injured.
