Elgin Police arrest Anderson Contreras in murder investigation

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Elgin Chief of Police Ana Z. Lalley have announced the arrest of Anderson A. Contreras. Authorities say Contreras is charged with three counts of First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm.

State’s Attorney Mosser alleges that Contreras struck the victim with a knife in the torso area leading to his death on October 12, 2024. Around 12:33 p.m., EPD says its officers responded to the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue for a reported stabbing.

At the scene, officers found an adult male victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities say 21-year-old Anderson A. Contreras was apprehended in the 700 block of Dundee Avenue without incident.

On Monday, police said Contreras would remain in custody until further order of the court. The Kane County Coroner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy on the victim on Tuesday. Contreras will appear in court against at 9 a.m. on October 24, 2024.
