The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of 24-year-old Andre Bryant Layne in connection to the fatal shooting of his mother. The shooting occurred in Dorris, California on October 2, 2024.

On that afternoon, SCSO deputies responded to the residence of 55-year-old Mary Loretta Curtz. At the scene, Curtz was found deceased in her yard with a fatal gunshot wound. SCSO says a man called Dispatch and identified himself as Andre Layne.

He allegedly told authorities that he accidentally shot his mother with a stolen rifle. Authorities eventually convinced Layne to exit a residence before he was detained by a California Highway Patrol officer.

Layne was booked into the Siskiyou County Jail.
