Five-year-old child suffered severe lacerations in dog attack in Independence

The Independence Police Department reports that its officers responded to a dog attack around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers responded to a residence in the 19000 block of East RD Mize Road in reference to a dog attack.

At the scene, responding officers found the child and an adult outside. IPD says the child appeared to have severe lacerations from a dog bite. Aid was provided and the child was transported to an area hospital by ambulance.

IPD says it believes that an unrestrained dog entered the fenced backyard where the child and adult were. The dog had been taken into custody. IPD detectives and Health and Animal Services personnel are investigating. No other details are available at this time.
