Ocala Police on the scene of a shooting at Jervey Gantt Park

Update 2 – Ocala Police have announced the arrest of the alleged shooter in the shooting at the Jervey Gantt Park. OPD officers responded to the scene on October 5, 2024 for a shooting outside of an MCYFL football game.

One man was found suffering from non-life-threatening injuries to his leg. OPD alleges that the shooter, 18-year-old Ewonye Jyiell Pinkney, was riding in a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Kayla Jarrell when he fired several shots toward the known subject.

The bullets struck an innocent bystander. Pinkney is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Public Firearm Discharge from a Vehicle, Possession of a Firearm by an Adjudicated Delinquent, and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.

Kayla Jarrell is charged with Principal to Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Principal to Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.

 

Update – Around 7:20 p.m., OPD received a report of shots fired at the park. Police say the shooting occurred in a parking lot during a youth football game. An adult male victim was taken to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Original – The Ocala Police Department is currently on the scene of a shooting on Saturday night. OPD reported on social media that there is a heavy police presence at Jervey Gantt Park due to a shooting.

OPD confirms that one person suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The scene has been secured. Authorities say there is no danger to the community.
