Update – Salt Lake City Police have identified the suspect in this shooting as 49-year-old Farshad Hassan-Pouri. SLCPD says the suspect is charged with Murder and Felony Discharge of a Firearm.
He is accused of fatally shooting a 30-year-old man during an argument downtown. The victim’s name is not being released. No other details are available.
Original – The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday. Around 12:18 p.m. on October 5, SLC911 received reports of a shooting near 200 South State Street.
Officers responded to the scene where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot behind the Maverik at 185 South State Street. Salt Lake City Fire Department personnel provided life-saving measures, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
SLCPD confirms the suspect was taken into custody near 200 South 300 East. At this time, the circumstances of the shooting are not clear. It is not believed that this was a random incident or that it had anything to do with General Conference 2024.
