The Roanoke Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to a fatal shooting on Thursday morning. RPD reports that E911 alerted RPD of a report of a person shot in the 3500 block of Melrose Avenue Northwest just before 11 a.m. on October 3.

At the scene, responding officers found an adult male victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. RPD says the suspect was taken into custody a short time after the incident.

RPD has identified the suspect as 23-year-old Mark L. Gary. The suspect is charged with Second-Degree Murder.
