A former youth tennis pro is sentenced to prison for sexual crimes against a student

The Office of the Monmouth County Prosecutor has announced that a former youth tennis pro has been sentenced to more than 56 years for sexual crimes against a student. On Saturday, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced that the former youth tennis instructor was sentenced to 56 ½ years in state prison. 32-year-old Terry Y. Kuo must serve a minimum of 85% of the term before being eligible for parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act.

An investigation into Kuo was initiated when one of his students alleged he had engaged in sexual misconduct on multiple occasions from August 2016 through November 2017 starting when the female victim was 12. Authorities say digital files containing child sexual abuse material were found on the defendant’s electronic devices as well. Prosecutors used digital evidence, physical evidence, and the victim’s testimony to prove that Kuo showered her with pricey gifts while coercing her to engage in sexual activities.

Kuo was initially arrested in Marlboro in November 2017 and indicted in February 2018. The jury found Kuo guilty of multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, first-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child via Manufacture of Child Sexual Abuse Materials, first-degree Kidnapping, three counts of second-degree Sexual Assault, and more.

By the time Kuo is eligible for parole, he will be 72.
