The Birmingham Police Department is currently investigating a homicide in the 1400 block of 1st Avenue West. According to BPD, its officers responded to two Shot Spotter notifications around 9:37 p.m. on Saturday. The first notification registered approximately five rounds.

The second registered approximately 12 rounds. At the scene, officers found an adult male victim unresponsive in the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

BPD believes the victim was involved in a verbal altercation at a separate location. The dispute continued to the incident location where shots were fired and the victim was fatally shot.

Following the shooting, the suspect left the scene. No other details are available at this time.
