The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has announced murder and armed criminal action charges against Gregory J. Foster for allegedly fatally shooting another man in the basement of their residence on November 30, 2023. According to court records, officers with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department were dispatched to a residence in Kansas City on November 30 just after 3 PM.

The calling party stated that someone was in the basement and he had shot him and left the back door open for officers. Upon arrival, officers entered the home where they located a deceased male covered with a towel in the basement. Court records indicate that a single spent shell casing was found near the victim. The calling party remained on the phone with the call center and revealed he had been suffering from depression for five years and was going to kill himself.

Authorities were able to track the calling party to 433 East Red Bridge Road. Officers responded to the location where they took the caller into custody without incident and recovered a 9mm handgun from his waistband. According to court records, Gregory Foster recounted waking up on the same day with the intention of taking his life by shooting himself. He discovered a note from the victim who stated he had three days to move out.

Foster allegedly retrieved a handgun and went downstairs where the victim usually stayed. It is alleged that Foster approached the victim and fired multiple shots into his chest. After the alleged shooting, Foster reportedly drove to QuikTrip where he purchased a chicken meal with his favorite drink which would be his last meal. Court records allege Foster returned to the residence, wrote a suicide note that he placed in his pocket, left the residence, and dialed 911.
