Surprise Police investigating murder-suicide involving two men early Monday morning

The Surprise Police Department is currently investigating a murder-suicide that occurred early Monday morning. SPD reports that its officers responded to a business in the area of West Bell Road and State Route 303 for a shooting around 5 a.m. on September 23, 2024.

At the scene, responding officers found two males in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers and witnesses attempted lifesaving measures, but the men succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

SPD investigators have identified the victim as 43-year-old Daniel Roman. Authorities say Roman suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect in the case has been identified as 49-year-old Lucas Izzo who suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

SPD believes that Roman was dating Izzo’s ex-wife. Izzo allegedly fired multiple rounds at Roman without provocation. Then, he turned on the gun on himself. Anyone struggling with thoughts of self-harm is urged to call 9-8-8.
