The Springfield Police Department has identified the victim in this morning’s fatal shooting as 23-year-old Darion Williams. SPD confirms that the suspect has been identified and located. The suspect was arrested on unrelated charges.

Charges have not been filed in this incident. Around 2:42 a.m. on September 21, 2024, SPD officers responded to a report of a man shot at Nichols Park at 1900 West Nichols Street. At the scene, officers found Williams with a gunshot wound in the parking lot.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
