Man fleeing from Yelm Police Department dies in motorcycle crash

A man is dead following a crash during a police crash. The Thurston County Sheriff reports that Yelm Police Department officers attempted to stop a yellow motorcycle within city limits around 9 p.m. on September 20, 2024.

The driver reportedly refused to stop and fled at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. The motorcyclist continued toward the Nisqually Indian Reservation at which point the Nisqually Tribal Police joined the pursuit.

The pursuit proceeded north on Highway 510 into Lacey where deputies joined the pursuit. The pursuit eventually ended when the driver failed to notice the “T” intersection at Wiggins Road.

The suspect drove straight into a driveway before crashing. Life-saving measures were taken, but the suspect succumbed to their injuries at the scene. At this time, authorities do not know why the suspect fled. No other details are available.
