The Delaware State Police has announced that it has found the attempted murder suspect involved in the officer-involved shooting on Tuesday. According to authorities, members of the Kent County Governor’s Task Force and Probation and Parole found 27-year-old Brian Holben driving a Jeep Cherokee in a parking lot at 4937 Hickman Road in Greenwood on November 28, 2023 just before 9:30 PM.
Authorities say detectives initiated a traffic stop on the Jeep, but Holben tried to flee by using the Jeep to push two State Police vehicles out of the way. When detectives attempted to remove Holben from the Jeep, he allegedly pointed a handgun at a detective and fired. Detectives returned fire before Holben fled on foot into a wooded area. The Delaware State Police announced that Holben had been located in Maryland.
Maryland State Police in collaboration with US Marshal’s Task Force assisted Delaware State Police detectives by serving a search warrant for Holben around 4 PM on November 30, 2023. Detectives say they learned that Holben was located inside a camper in the 13000 block of Holly Road in Greensboro, Maryland. Authorities say Holben barricaded himself inside the camper when they attempted to get him to surrender.
Efforts to negotiate with Holben were unsuccessful. Authorities say Holben was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound once they entered the camper. Holben was pronounced deceased at the scene.
