Macomb Police Officers shot while serving warrant on Wednesday

Update – The Macomb Police Department has apprehended the man who allegedly shot at officers. MPD reports that the suspect surrendered peacefully around 2:10 p.m. on Thursday. 38-year-old Shaiking M. Mathis was taken into custody and booked into the McDonough County Jail.

At this time, he is charged with four counts of Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer and one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. Additional charges are expected. Officers were at a residence in the 300 block of North Normal Street where they intended to serve a search warrant.

Two officers were shot by the suspect in the residence. Both officers are recovering at home and are expected to make a full recovery. Mugshot is available here.

Two officers were shot. They are currently being treated at an area hospital in critical but stable condition. MPD confirms law enforcement remains at the scene. Locals are asked to stay away from the area.

MPD says there is no active threat to the community.
