The Maricopa Police Department announced the arrest of 31-year-old Stephen Meriwether following a standoff. MPD reports that officers attempted to carry out a traffic stop on a vehicle at John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Avenue just before noon on Tuesday.

The vehicle reportedly fled the scene before being located at a residence in the 45000 block of Morning View Drive. The suspect entered the residence and barricaded inside the attic and an upstairs bedroom.

MPD says the Pinal County Regional SWAT Team responded and assisted with support from the Chandler Police Department. After roughly two hours, chemical munitions were used to try to coax the suspect outside.

MPD confirms the suspect surrendered once the team made entry into the residence. No shots were fired at any time. MPD reports that Meriwether faces charges of Unlawful Flight as well as pending warrants.
