Sonoma Sheriff’s Office looking for more possible victims after man arrested for sex crimes against children

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for more possible victims after a man was arrested for sex crimes against children. Authorities say it recently arrested a man who used to live in Windsor on several charges of sexual assaults against children.

During the investigation, authorities say it was learned that more crimes were reported and that there could be more victims in Sonoma County and Ada County, Idaho. On July 31, 2024, the Windsor Police Department began investigating a molestation case that occurred during the 1990s.

The victims came forward because they were worried the suspect may still be molesting other children. The Sheriff’s Office’s Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit took over the investigation. On August 13, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for 66-year-old Richard Leslie Ward II.

Detectives traveled to Boise, Idaho where they arrested Ward. At this time, Ward is being held by Ada County awaiting extradition to Sonoma County on seven felony charges. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact SCSO’s DVSA Unit at 707-565-8290.
