Callaway County Sheriff’s Office arrests Kibby Freedom following fentanyl related robbery and shooting

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 42-year-old Mexico, Missouri man in connection to a shooting and robbery. CCSO reports that deputies responded to a shooting on US Highway 54 near County Road 240 in Kingdom City around 1:47 a.m. on August 31, 2024.

The Callaway County Joint Communications received a 911 call saying two people had been shot. CCSO says deputies identified one victim as a 20-year-old woman from Mexico, Missouri.

The second victim was identified as 42-year-old Kibby Freeman. CCSO says a lengthy investigation indicated that the incident was a targeted robbery involving a controlled substance, fentanyl.

At some point during the robbery, a shotgun was discharged. Freeman and the female were injured. After Freeman was released from the hospital, he was arrested for his alleged involvement in the robbery.

Freeman has been charged with the following.

  • Robbery – 1st Degree
  • Assault – 1st Degree or Attempt (Serious Physical Injury or Special Victim)
  • Assault – 2nd Degree (Two Counts)
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child – 1st Degree (Creating Substantial Risk, 1st Offense, No Sexual Conduct)
  • Armed Criminal Action
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Subsection 9 (Shooting At/From a Motor Vehicle, At Person, Motor Vehicle, or Building, Resulting in Death or Injury)
  • Stealing – Firearm/Explosive Weapon/Ammonium Nitrate
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Felony Prosecution

CCSO confirms the female victim is still in the hospital in serious condition. A shotgun was recovered.
