The Austin Police Department is investigating a shooting. Around 8:35 p.m. on August 22, officers responded to a shooting in the 6300 block of Thurgood Avenue. At the scene, officers found a male victim, Jeremiah Cavazos, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim passed away at the scene around 8:55 p.m. Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to investigate. APD reports that it was discovered that the victim and a juvenile drove a stolen vehicle to the location to meet another juvenile.
During the meeting, Cavazos and juvenile #2 allegedly tried to rob juvenile #1. The robbery attempt led to a shootout between all three individuals. Cavazos was shot and got back into the suspect vehicle.
As juvenile #2 drove away from the scene, Cavazos was thrown from the backseat and onto the payment. Juvenile #1 fled the scene on foot. APD reports that juvenile #2 is charged with Capital Murder.
Juvenile #1 is charged with First Degree Murder. The case is being investigated as Austin’s 40th homicide of the year.
