Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Church Street before 2 a.m. on November 30, 2023. Responding deputies found a 43-year-old male suffering from a gunshot injury. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Arkansas State Police assumed the investigation.

A preliminary investigation determined the victim was shot during an altercation with a 26-year-old male.

The victim was later identified as 43-year-old Daniel Davis of Charleston, Arkansas. The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Donny Wayne Deer.

Authorities have charged Deer with first-degree murder.
