The Sanford Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting of Brandon Leo on July 20, 2024. Around 9:30 p.m. on July 20, SPD officers responded to a shooting in front of a residence in the 1800 of West 3rd Street.

At the scene, officers found a white pickup truck partially submerged in a retention pond. The victim, Brandon Leo, was found inside the truck deceased from a gunshot wound. SPD believed that Brandon was meeting an unknown individual to sell a pair of headphones.

Two individuals approached the driver’s side of his truck. At some point, Brandon reportedly began reversing out of the driveway and several shots were fired. The truck reversed into the retention pond where it was found.

On August 21, 2024, SPD announced the arrest of Dra’shawn Williams. An arrest warrant was issued for Williams for First Degree Felony Murder. SPD confirms Williams was already in custody on an unrelated charge.
