Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigating after infant found deceased in a ditch

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating after an infant was found deceased in a ditch. Major John Nanny said in a video statement that HCSO received a call about a lawn crew member finding an infant in a ditch in the 1500 block of Henry Road.

Major Nanny said there’s been a bit of an epidemic on this recently. The Baby Moses law allows the parent to drop off the child at an EMS, fire department, or another facility. Nanny admitted there is no information about how this happened or why.

It is believed the baby is a newborn. Authorities are waiting for the Medical Examiner’s Office to reach the scene. A lawn crew was mowing the ditches when they found the child and called authorities. Nanny went on to say the child was lying on a blanket and was partially clothed.

There are no visible signs of trauma, but authorities have not moved the child. No other details are available at this time.
