Spokane Police investigating fatal traffic collision that kills male pedestrian and his dog

The Spokane Police Department is currently investigating a fatal traffic collision that claimed the lives of a man and his dog. SPD reports that its officers responded to the area of Division and Lincoln Road for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision around 11:34 p.m. on August 16, 2024.

911 was informed that a subject had been struck by a pickup truck and the subject was unconscious in the roadway. Medics reached the scene and immediately provided life-saving measures.

Officers shut down the roads around the intersection due to the seriousness of the subject’s injuries. SPD says the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A dog that the man was walking at the time also died.

Officers spoke to the involved driver. At this time, SPD does not believe impairment was a factor in the crash. SPD says the driver advised that they were traveling south on Division near Lincoln when they saw a vehicle traveling northbound swerve.

The driver reportedly saw the man in the roadway in front of his vehicle and was unable to avoid him. SPD’s Major Crimes Unit has responded to assist with the investigation.
