The El Mirage Police Department has been investigating a shooting at Gentry Park on August 12, 2024. EMPD reports that its officers responded to the park for unknown trouble around 7 p.m. on August 12, 2024.

Multiple people called 911 to report a possible shooting at the location. At the scene, responding officers found an unresponsive victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was rushed to an area hospital.

The victim is reportedly in serious condition although he survived his injuries. Over the next few days, EMPD detectives, DPS Gang Unit Detectives, and EMPD Neighborhood Enforcement Team officers investigated.

On August 15, 2024, authorities arrested Javier Arce Guerrero when he was leaving his residence near the 14000 block of North Alto Street. Guerrero was booked on charges of Attempted Murder, Endangerment, Assault, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
