The Salinas Police Department is currently investigating the fatal shooting of 58-year-old Saul Guadalupe Santos. SPD reports that its officers responded to a report of a man down in the roadway in the 2200 block of North Main Street around 7:10 a.m. on August 11, 2024.

At the scene, officers located the victim, Santos, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. SPD says multiple witnesses reported seeing a blue Ford Explorer fleeing the scene traveling southbound on North Main Street.

Authorities later determined that the vehicle belonged to Santos. SPD says the suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle following an assault and carjacking. Authorities later found the vehicle abandoned in Salinas. No other details are available at this time.
