The Redwood City Police Department has announced an arrest in a recent elder abuse case. RCPD says officers responded to the 1800 block of Broadway for a report of a customer who had been assaulted around 7:39 a.m. on August 14, 2024.
Officers learned that the suspect was unknown to the customer. RCPD says the suspect approached the customer and punched them several times in the face before walking away. At the time, the suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his 20s.
Officers were unable to locate the suspect. Around 8:02 a.m., RCPD officers responded to 400 County Center for a similar report of a man randomly punching a community member for no apparent reason.
Officers used video surveillance to confirm the same suspect was responsible for both incidents. Around 5:21 p.m., RCPD officers learned that the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a similar battery in the 2500 block of Middlefield Road in unincorporated Redwood City.
Deputies apprehended 37-year-old Miguel Angel Landa who was allegedly positively identified as the suspect involved in both cases in Redwood City. Landa was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for Willful Injury to Elder, Battery, and Violation of Parole.
