A suspect has been arrested in connection to a shooting on August 3 in the 800 block of South Halsted Street. The Chicago Heights Police Department reports that officers responded to the aforementioned location around 2:20 a.m. on August 3 for a report of shots fired.

At the scene, officers found a gunshot victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition. CHPD’s Investigation Division obtained surveillance footage and used license plate readers to identify the suspect.

Investigators say they located the suspect and the vehicle used in the shooting. With help from the Illinois State Police and the Calumet City Police Department, 36-year-old Richard Flores was taken into custody.

Flores is charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
