Hattiesburg Police arrest another suspect in shooting at the Hop-In in July

The Hattiesburg Police Department has announced a second arrest in connection to a shooting that occurred on July 28, 2024. HPD reports that 24-year-old Tarvez D. “Take Off” McCarty was arrested on one count of Shooting Into a Dwelling/Business and one count of Weapon Possession by Convicted Felon.

On July 28, 2024 around 3 a.m., HPD officers carried out a security check in the 6300 block of Highway 49 in reference to a large group. At the scene, officers heard shots fired in the 2600 block of West 7th Street.

Officers were able to identify and contact the suspect. 24-year-old Levi Myers was taken into custody. HPD says a vehicle had been struck by a single bullet and an individual suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was reportedly in stable condition. Myers was charged with one count of Shooting into a Dwelling/Business.
