Elizabeth City Police arrest two suspects following shooting at 7-11 on South Hughes Boulevard

The Elizabeth City Police Department has announced an arrest in connection to a shooting at 7-11. Around 2:36 a.m. on August 4, 2024, ECPD officers responded to the 7-11 on 300 South Hughes Boulevard for a report of a shooting.

At the scene, officers were informed that a juvenile had entered the store to purchase a drink. Three subjects entered the store brandishing handguns while the juvenile was in line. One of the suspects fired a weapon at the juvenile as he was running from the store.

The store’s sunglasses case and ice machine were damaged. On August 9, 2024, ECPD announced the arrest of 18-year-old Steven Moore Jr. and 18-year-old Zavion Simpson. Both were booked on various charges.

Moore is charged with Carrying a Concealed Gun and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill. Simpson is charged with Carrying a Concealed Gun and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill. The investigation is ongoing.
