Yuma Police investigating aggravated assault with vehicle shot by BB or pellet gun

The Yuma Police Department is currently investigating after a vehicle was shot by a BB or pellet gun. YPD reports that its officers responded to the area of 16th Street and 5th Avenue for a report of someone in a vehicle displaying a rifle and chasing another vehicle.

Officers responded to the call around 5:01 p.m. on August 7, 2024. YPD says officers spotted and attempted to stop the vehicle in question. The suspect did not stop leading to a police pursuit.

The pursuit ended roughly ten minutes later when the vehicle stopped in the 200 block of South 10th Avenue. Five juveniles were taken into custody. YPD says the juveniles range in age from 15 to 17.

According to authorities, the investigation determined that the victim vehicle was shot at by a BB or pellet gun. The vehicle’s window was shattered and the vehicle was damaged. YPD confirms the vehicle was occupied at the time of the shooting.

The juveniles were booked into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center.
