Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Joel Medina charged with Extortion and Disclosure of Private Images

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has announced an arrest of a CMPD officer for Felony Extortion and Felony Disclosure of Private Images. Officer Joel Meinda was arrested and charged with one count of each.

CMPD’s Special Victims Division interviewed Medina on August 5, 2024. Following the interview, Medina was taken into custody and transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the incident occurred outside of work. CMPD Internal Affairs is also conducting an investigation. Medina is on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
