36-year-old Josef Meinzer arraigned on murder charges in Granite Bay double homicide

The Placer County District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday that 36-year-old Josef Meinzer appeared in court for his arraignment on murder charges. Authorities say Meinzer is the suspect in a recent double homicide in Granite Bay.

The incident happened on October 21, 2024. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office investigated the double murder and submitted the case to the District Attorney’s Office. Meinzer appeared in court and a public defender was appointed to him.

The next court date is scheduled for November 6. The defendant is being held at the Placer County Jail without bail. PCSO says it received a call about suspicious circumstances at a residence in the area of Lou Place and Oak Leaf Way in Granite Bay around 8 a.m. on October 21.

Authorities say man in his mid-30s was inside the home. PCSO tried to make contact with the man but were unable to. Around 11:45 a.m. on that day, the man surrendered and was detained. PCSO says deputies entered the home and found a deceased man and a deceased woman.
