The Union County Sheriff’s Office has announced charges against a mother accused of intentionally overdosing children with prescription drugs. UCSO reports that 28-year-old Sarah Jones was arrested during an investigation into allegations of child abuse.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau initiated an investigation in March 2024 after her two minor children were admitted to an area hospital with signs of narcotics overdose. Physicians determined that the children had been given large amounts of prescription narcotics, including Tramadol and Benadryl.
UCSO detectives believe the overdoses were intentional and malicious acts carried out by their mother, Sarah Jones. Detectives also say the hospital visit was not the first incident in which Jones had intentionally overdosed her children.
UCSO detectives say they established a pattern of abuse spanning several months. Jones is charged with two counts of Felony Child Abuse. She was being held at the Union County Detention Center but was released on a secured bond of $25,000.
